A Matter of Balance Certified Volunteer Coaches

Volunteer lay leader coaches who facilitate the program report a sense of confidence and are enthusiastic about seeing older adults gain more independence.  The Partnership for Healthy Aging developed a survey to measure lay leaders experience teaching A Matter of Balance.  The lay leaders indicated that overall they gained a sense of accomplishment, found their purpose in life had increased, felt they could make a positive difference in another person's life, and increased their own confidence about managing fallsWe have certified over 180 coaches across the Coachella Valley.


Coaching Skills Required:  Follows the curriculum as outlined in the A Matter of Balance Manual; Able to clearly explain topics and activities; Uses time well and paces activities; Comfortable leading the group; Creates an environment that supports and encourages participants in sharing; Encourages participation using a variety of strategies; Leads group exercises appropriately and safely; Maintains a safe environment for the class; Works well with other coach(es).
